Biography

Pfc. Brent T. Vroman, 21, of Omro, Wisconsin, was a 2001 graduate of Omro High School, where he lettered all four years in wrestling, competing in the 125-pound class as a senior. He also played football as a defensive back, ran track, and was a member of the baseball team. He joined Fox Company in March 2003 and, when the company was activated on June 1, deployed with them as a rifleman in 1st Platoon, Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 24th Marines, a Marine Corps Reserve unit headquartered in Chicago. On December 13, 2004, he was killed by wounds sustained in an enemy explosion during combat operations in Babil province, Iraq, alongside Lance Cpl. Richard D. Warner, his fellow rifleman in 1st Platoon. He was the fourth Marine Fox Company lost in Iraq and the 31st service member from Wisconsin killed in the war. He had planned to attend the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh when he finished his tour.

Remembrance

""He was just the kind of student that American high schools are built on — hardworking, all-around good kid," said Omro High School Principal Bret Steffen. "He was a student who worked hard to make things happen for himself." A moment of silence was observed before the school's wrestling meet the night his death was announced. He left behind a twin brother, also in the military, who was planning to be married over the Christmas holidays."
